Reliable separation of streamers and bird’s nests

The drum screens are used to clean plastic pellets by removing streamers (angel hairs) and bird’s nests.

This cleaning ensures the highest bulk material quality for plastic pellets before they are processed further. Using drum screens eliminates problems that can typically arise in downstream processes, caused by the presence of streamers and bird’s nests.

The drum screen can also be used for process applications such as the removal of agglomerations in plastic powder processing.

Operating principle

Plastic pellets contaminated with streamers or bird’s nests are gravimetrically fed into a rotating drum screen. The screen’s mesh size allows plastic pellets to flow through the screen, while the streamers and bird’s nests are kept back. These streamers are then transported to the streamer discharge by means of the drum rotation in conjunction with a targeted airstream. This airstream is applied locally to the surface of the screen, cleaning away any streamers that adhere to screen openings during operation.
