The company remains committed to the Russian market. On June 5, 2019, the Zeppelin Group not only celebrated the opening of a new branch, but also marked 20 years of operation in Russia. The company is demonstrating its ongoing commitment to the Russian market by investing in a high-tech service workshop, spare parts warehouse, and office building.
“The Group’s 20 years of activity in Russia and continued expansion here is a real cause for celebration. We’re proud that we are creating new jobs with this branch, and in doing so contributing to economic stability and growth in the region,” said Andreas Brand, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Zeppelin GmbH, during the opening ceremony.
The Zeppelin Group has been represented in north-west, central and south-west Russia since 1998. The company provides services for the delivery of a wide range of machines and engines from the global Caterpillar brand, including machines used in construction, mining, the oil and gas industry, and specialized forestry machinery from Finnish manufacturer Ponsse. The branch in St. Petersburg is both Zeppelin’s largest site in Russia and the key regional center serving the entire north-western region of the Russian Federation. A number of industrial and mining companies have sites in the region, and have an increased need for reliable and smooth-running machines.
“We are proud of our long-standing and trustful relationships to our customers in Russia. Our investment is a clear signal that we remain committed to the Russian market. The opening of our new site in St. Petersburg will allow us to raise the quality and scope of our services for our customers to new levels,” said Peter Gerstmann, Chairman of the Management Board of Zeppelin GmbH, on the steps taken by the Group.
The Zeppelin Group has invested a total of around 17.5 million euros in the company premises, which exceeds 40,000 m² in floor area and includes the regional central spare parts warehouse and a new office building, alongside a high-tech service workshop for machines and engines; the site is set to create more than 150 jobs.
Holger Schulz, Managing Director of Zeppelin International and General Manager of Zeppelin in Russia is delighted that the relationships built with Zeppelin customers over many years can continue to flourish: “The new regional sales and service center in St. Petersburg gives us a quicker and more efficient means of meeting our customers’ rising demands in respect of the maintenance and repair of their constantly expanding machine fleets in future. This
cutting-edge site also provides an outstanding opportunity to expand the range of services and solutions on offer.”
Despite the challenging geopolitical situation, the Zeppelin Group enjoyed considerable success in Russia in the 2018 fiscal year, with a total revenue of 320 million dollars. Long-time sales and service partner Caterpillar operates a plant close to St. Petersburg, producing hydraulic excavators and dumper trucks for the local market. The proximity of this plant also has a positive impact on our business. Caterpillar representatives Denise Johnson, Group President (Mining), Tom Pellette, Senior Vice President and Richard Kinsey, Vice President (Cat Finance), joined a number of high-ranking representatives from politics, business and the Zeppelin Group Management Board for the celebrations in St. Petersburg, helping to underline Caterpillar’s commitment to the Russian market.
