Garching near Munich, April 5, 2016. The Zeppelin Group is establishing a new strategic business unit to pool new digital business models that are being developed alongside the company’s existing business. The SBU will operate independently of manufacturers and will successfully complete the existing business.
“By establishing this SBU, we are responding to the digitization of the world of business. We will make the best use of new technologies to continue to operate successfully on the market and attract new customer groups,” says Peter Gerstmann, Chairman of the Management Board of the Zeppelin Group. The new business unit will initially focus on developing digital business models in the spare parts, used machines, and sharing and service sectors with the aim of generating transaction revenue of 300 million euros in 2020. The start-up klickrent, a subsidiary of the Zeppelin Group and a sharing platform for construction equipment, is to be incorporated into the new business unit.
In total, the Zeppelin Group is set to invest tens of millions of euros in the digitization of new and existing business models over the next five years.
“I am looking forward to the new challenge and firmly believe that Zeppelin will successfully navigate the evolving digital environment with great dynamism, discipline, and innovation. The sixth strategic business unit will provide a strong digital platform for this effort. Thanks to klickrent, we already have a very good foundation on which to build,” says Wolfgang Hahnenberg, Head of the Rental SBU and the new business unit.
Hahnenberg has worked for the company since 2003 and has already held various positions. Since 2013, he has been Chairman of the Management Board of Zeppelin Rental GmbH & Co. KG and Head of the Rental SBU. Hahnenberg will continue to manage the Rental SBU until further notice.
